Recladding means removing the existing exterior skin entirely and replacing it with a new envelope system. It offers the most thorough fix and the greatest design flexibility, but it is also the most disruptive and expensive option, often requiring full scaffolding, extended timelines, and significant coordination with occupants. 

Overcladding adds a new performance layer over the existing structure without stripping it back to the studs. It is faster, less disruptive, and typically more cost effective, making it a common choice for occupied buildings where displacing residents is not realistic.
