If you’ve been eagerly waiting for the next episode of Apple TV+’s Severance, there’s a good chance you’ve tried searching for Lumon in the meantime and stumbled upon us. Or perhaps you’ve been researching options to renovate your terrace, and you had heard of Lumon Canada before… but now some mysterious information about exactly what services Lumon provides seems to be coming up when you search.

However you’ve ended up in our space, we welcome you and want to address the elephant in the room: We have the same name as an antagonistic corporation from one of the biggest streaming series of all time. But that’s where the similarities stop.

In this article, we’ll discuss how different Lumon Group and Lumon Industries are; don’t worry, there aren’t any spoilers ahead.

What is Severance?

The Apple TV+ thriller Severance premiered in 2022, and came back with a much-anticipated second season in early 2025 to massive acclaim. It follows the experiences of severed employees at Lumon Industries, and their pursuit of truth in what the corporation is doing, and what exactly they are working on. Severing refers to the practice of separating an employee’s consciousness into two: an innie, who is only conscious at work on the severed floor, and an outie, who is only conscious outside of the severed floor. Innies know nothing about their life outside of work, and the same goes for outies—they don’t know what happens in their innie’s life.

Severance explores the ethical implications of having two separate selves at work and outside of it. The practice of severing is highly controversial in the Severance universe—as well as ours—and Lumon Industries goes to great lengths to garner public support for the procedure.

Who is Lumon Industries in Severance?

Lumon (pronounced “loo-mehn”) Industries is “the world’s leading biotechnology company” in the streaming series Severance on Apple TV+. In the series, Lumon Industries was founded in 1865 by Kier Eagan. The Eagan family remains an integral, intertwined part of the legacy of Lumon Industries; their family history is portrayed throughout the offices of Lumon Industries, and its current CEO Jame Eagan is a descendant.

In the show, Lumon Industries’s started by offering topical salves. But the modern work of Lumon Industries is quite secretive and contested, to the point of the corporation ‘severing’ its employees who work with highly confidential material.

Who is Lumon Group?

Lumon (pronounced “loo-mawn”) Group, on the other hand, is a real-life company. We strive to create innovative designs that connect the indoors and the outdoors, so our customers’ lives are enriched with light in tailored sustainable spaces. But it wasn’t always called Lumon.

Lumon was first founded in 1978 as Pohjois-Karjalan Lasipalvelu Ky, and operated out of a chicken coop in Outokumpu, Finland. After moving to Kymenlaakso in 1981, we changed our name to Ikkunanikkarit Ky and became one of the most popular window renovators for single-family houses and apartment buildings in that area.

Now known as an internationally recognized provider of balcony and terrace glazing, Lumon Group operates in more than 20 countries around the world, including offices in Sweden, Spain, and Canada. We have over 1,000 team members across the world, and we’re not slowing down any time soon.

Lumon Group may have humble beginnings just like Lumon Industries, but we could not be more different from the Lumon Industries you see on Severance. People are at the center of everything we do, including our customers and our team members. We want our team members to bring their full selves to work each and every day, and that’s what makes the work we do at Lumon Group so special.

Throughout our history, our purpose has remained the same: to make more room for life. And we do that by designing, building, and installing glass paneling that you can customize depending on the season, weather, and purpose of the space. Our work is driven by our core values:

  • Always close to the customer
  • Playing fair
  • Courage for renewal
  • Succeeding together
