Lumon terrace glazing has a durable aluminum structure and simple glass panes, so in winter at night or when no sun, the temperature drops close to the outside air. After glazing, the terrace is therefore an uninsulated, cold space. The furniture of which must be adapted to the outdoor conditions. However, the glass terrace substantially reduces the amount of dust, wind and snow that enters the terrace. However, the glazed terrace heats up significantly faster when the sun is shining, causing the temperature difference between the outside space and the glazed terrace to increase.
Is the glazed terrace hot in the summer, especially if the terrace has a glass roof?
Naturally, the terrace heats up with the summer sunshine, but you can make it easier by opening all the terrace glazing, so that the draft cools the hot air a little. Visor blinds in the glass roof and doors also prevent direct sunlight and temperature rise. Learn more about the blinds.
Is the terrace glazing safe?
The glass is 6-12 mm thick tempered glass that requires a strong impact to break. Tempered safety glass withstands shocks, bending and temperature fluctuations many times over compared to ordinary glass. When broken, tempered glass shatters into small, blunt-ended chips that do not pose a serious risk of injury.
Is the glazed terrace a sealed space?
Lumon terrace glazing protects the terrace from wind and storms, but the glazing is not completely sealed, as the terrace also needs ventilation. On rainy and windy days, a little water can get on the terrace, because the terrace is still a semi-outdoor space, although better protected than before. There is usually an opening between the Lumon glass roof and the top profile, the size of which depends on the height difference of the roof. It is part of the normal installation method. Read above more about ventilation.
Is it possible to get glasses in different shades and colours?
If the thickness of the terrace glass is 6-8 mm, the following shades can be chosen for the terrace glass in addition to clear glass: green, gray, brown, satinato and stippolyte.
Can the aluminum parts of the terrace be available in different colors?
The terrace glazing and roof profiles are polyester powder coated and there are three standard colors to choose from: white (RAL9016), light gray (RAL9006) and dark gray (RAL7024). For a special order, the colour tone can be selected from the RAL colour chart, in which case there are a total of 210 different colour options.
What are retractable glass walls? How do they work?
Lumon retractable terrace glazing are glass walls for your terrace or patio that slide easily along a low track and fold open. The innovative system means that you can have a fully protected sunroom or terrace, an open and breezy patio space, or a partial windbreak – simply by positioning the glass walls in different ways! Lumon retractable glazing is easy to use. Simply use the handle to open the first panel, and then slide the remaining panels along the track and fold them open against the first panel.
Is a glazed terrace a four season sunroom?
Lumon terrace glazing is better understood as three season rooms rather than four season sunrooms. Unlike a four season sunroom, which is typically just a regular insulated room with standard double paned windows, our glass walls can slide open and retract fully for maximum flexibility.
Lumon terrace glazing is not intended to be a thermal space like indoor rooms but rather a protected outdoor space that enhances the comfort and usability of your patio while maintaining that essential outdoor flavour.
Can I use a Lumon sunroom in the winter?
In a milder climates, homeowners typically find that they can enjoy their terrace with a Lumon Glazing system all year round.
Colder climates have a shorter patio or terrace season, but depending on the orientation of the terrace, you might still find that you can use it on sunny days in the winter.
In both climates, adding a heat source (such as a terrace heater, electric fireplace, or other heat source) to your Lumon terrace glazing can extend the patio season substantially.
Can I use the retractable terrace glazing system as the exterior wall of my home?
Unfortunately not. Our glazing systems are single glazed, tempered panels with 2-3mm gaps between the glass to allow for adequate ventilation of your outdoor living space. They are not thermally rated to act as an interior-exterior barrier.
Can I use the terrace glazing system as an interior wall inside my home?
Yes, we have done many interior applications.
Do you have covers or roofs that retract?
No, our roofs are fixed structures to eliminate issues with snow load, wind load, and drainage. However, our glass walls are fully retractable.
Can I lock my glazing?
Yes, every type of terrace glazing can be equipped with a locking mechanism.
How do I clean my Lumon glass roof or patio cover? Can I use a pressure washer on the roof?
We do not recommend the use of a pressure washer on your glass roof, as it can damage the rubber seals that hold your roof panels in place. It’s best not to use a pressure washer on your glass walls either.

For both the glass roof and the glazing systems, we recommend using mild household cleaning products or soapy water on the surface. Cleaning glass with a long-handled squeegee will give you the best results.
