Lumon Shapes the Future of Balconies with Revolutionary Glazing Technology
Demand for innovative and sustainable design solutions is rising in Toronto, and Lumon Canada is leading the way in residential balcony architecture. Their balcony glazing technology was recently approved by Ontario’s Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, streamlining adoption across Ontario. Lumon Glazing Retractable, a frameless glass system, allows balconies to be enjoyed by protecting against the elements while providing easy operation and cleaning. The system is top-hung, supporting weight from above. This system is now recognized as an alternative solution in the Building Code, meeting high-performance standards through engineering reviews.
Lumon Glazing Retractable features frameless, retractable glass panels interconnected with roller bearings and robust hinges, allowing lateral movement and up to 90-degree swings. The system ensures significant protection from wind, rain, and noise without converting balconies into conditioned living spaces, enhancing their usability. Approved by the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC) since 2012, it meets the National Building Code of Canada 2020 for various critical aspects.
The system is featured in multiple projects, including Mattamy Homes’ 58 Adam Sellers Street and Union Mount Pleasant, and AALTO Development’s award-winning Lākhouse in Barrie. Upcoming projects like Luna at Elements Condominiums in Barrie, CH Clement’s Domaine Du Golf, and Clockwork Phase 3 in Oakville also incorporate Lumon’s system, enhancing property value and resident lifestyle. Lumon’s technology is expanding beyond Ontario, with significant adoption in British Columbia’s major developments.
