Verified emissions data increasingly needed in construction – Lumon launches CO₂ calculation for its facade, balcony and terrace solutions

March 27th, 2026 – Lumon, a Finnish-origin provider of glazed spaces, is introducing a new CO₂ calculator that enables construction professionals to utilise project-specific carbon footprint data in projects involving Lumon’s facade, balcony and terrace solutions.

The calculation is based on Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) data for Lumon’s products and produces a comparable CO₂e figure to support the design and reporting of construction projects.

The new CO₂ calculator will be implemented in Lumon’s project deliveries in the Nordic countries and Central Europe. It enables project-specific carbon footprint calculations for Lumon’s glazing and railing solutions, and the results can be used in carbon footprint reporting as well as in the comparison of design alternatives.

“Verified emissions data is increasingly required in construction projects to support decision-making. With our new CO₂ calculator, we can provide our customers with reliable data and deliver project-specific calculations quickly and transparently,” says Risto Kivioja, Chief Customer Officer at Lumon.

“Our glazing solutions increase a building’s carbon handprint throughout its lifecycle by protecting structures, extending the lifespan of balconies, and reducing the need for repairs. At the same time, they improve living comfort by enabling balconies and terraces to be used actively all year round,” Kivioja continues.

Lumon’s EPD data covers all facade, balcony and terrace products

The EPD published for Lumon’s products covers balcony, facade and terrace solutions. The EPD has been developed using a modular approach, enabling the environmental impacts of Lumon’s customised product solutions to be calculated based on their key materials and structural components. Lumon’s EPD has been published in the Finnish environmental certification system (RTS system, RTS_257_23) and verified in accordance with the ISO 14025 standard.

On a project-specific basis, the CO₂ calculator provides:

  • a CO₂e result (kg CO₂e) for the solutions delivered by Lumon
  • the ability to report emissions by life-cycle stage in accordance with the EPD (e.g., manufacturing A1–A3 and, if required, transport and installation A4–A5)
  • figures that can be used in LCA and carbon footprint reporting for construction projects
