Lumon enters partnership with Ryds Glas – targets growing market in residential energy efficiency

March 24th, 2026

Stricter EU energy requirements and an increased focus on improving energy efficiency in existing buildings are driving a growing market in Sweden. Against this backdrop, Lumon is entering a strategic partnership with Ryds Glas to scale up its business and strengthen its national presence.

The EU’s updated directives on the energy performance of buildings and reduced energy consumption, to be implemented by the end of this year, are increasing the focus on long-term sustainable measures in the existing building stock. At the same time, the Energy Efficiency Directive sets higher requirements for reduced energy use by 2030. Swedish building regulations are also evolving towards a greater emphasis on functionality and performance in renovation and refurbishment. Taken together, these developments are influencing how investments are prioritized, with measures that improve buildings’ energy balance and reduce future maintenance needs gaining importance.

Against this background, balcony glazing has evolved from a comfort solution into a measure increasingly viewed as part of long-term property management. Properly designed solutions can reduce heat loss, protect façades and structures, and contribute to longer lifespans and lower maintenance requirements. At the same time, they increase the usability value for residents, with balconies increasingly seen as part of the usable living space.

The partnership supports a growing market with strong potential

As performance requirements for buildings become stricter, the need for solutions that combine high quality with long-term functionality is increasing. Creating lasting value requires systems developed for Nordic climate conditions and capable of withstanding wind, precipitation, and temperature variations. Lumon’s glazing systems are tailor-made, developed in-house, and tested for Nordic climates, with a focus on durability and long service life.

The balcony glazing market has reached different levels of maturity across the Nordics. In Finland, the solution is well established across much of the housing stock, while Sweden still lags behind. Combined with a significant renovation need in Sweden’s multi-family housing stock, this indicates continued strong growth, with measures in existing buildings being prioritized.

“We are seeing a shift in the market. Based on our calculations of the Swedish housing stock, renovation needs, and the share of apartments with balconies, we estimate that the potential investment volume related to balcony measures amounts to approximately SEK 25–31 billion (approx. €2.3 billion – €2.9 billion) in the coming years. As a large share of multi-family buildings reaches an age where measures are required, the need for cost-effective and scalable solutions increases. Balconies are one such component where relatively limited interventions can contribute to both improved living environments and energy performance. The partnership with Ryds Glas is an important step in meeting that demand across the country,” says Kim Sahlström, Country Manager of Lumon Sweden.

“The partnership with Lumon strengthens our offering with an established and experienced supplier in balcony glazing. This enables us to meet customer demand with a clearer end-to-end offering, from consulting and sales to installation, for property owners, developers, and other stakeholders seeking functional, sustainable, and aesthetically refined solutions,” says Pierre Isgren, Head of Procurement and Property at Ryds Glas.

In Sweden Lumon currently operates in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö, along with a network of resellers. Through the partnership with Ryds Glas, which has a nationwide presence, a more unified and nationwide structure is established where Ryds Glas is responsible for sales, installation, and customer relationships, while Lumon supplies the glazing systems.
