[NEWS] Chilean Construction Chamber Visits Lumon Factory in Kouvola
On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, Lumon’s headquarters in Kouvola welcomed a delegation of 23 high-rise developers from Chile. This visit was part of a broader tour organized by the Chilean Construction Chamber, with a specific focus on sustainable and responsible building practices. Earlier in the week, the group visited Denmark and continued their journey to Finland to explore advancements in timber construction and other innovative construction solutions.
The visit to Lumon was a key element of Business Finland’s two-year-long Low Carbon Construction project, which seeks to promote the export of Finnish sustainable building solutions to target markets across Europe, North America, and South America. Lumon has been involved in the project since its beginning two years ago, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability as a global leader.
During the visit, the Chilean delegation inquired about Lumon’s manufacturing locations in Finland, Spain, Toronto, and Santiago, Chile. They were curious why production wasn’t sourced from China, as is common practice in the industry. Lumon’s response was clear: the choice of production locations is driven by the need to ensure the highest product quality, utilize advanced automation technologies, and provide short delivery times for custom-made products. Additionally, a localized supply chain ensures more efficient and secure deliveries, further enhancing customer satisfaction.
The delegation was also particularly interested in Lumon’s energy-saving and structural protection solutions offered by its balcony glazing systems, as well as the noise reduction benefits these systems provide. Guests were also introduced to Lumon’s eRailing and Low Carbon balcony glazing products, which have positioned Lumon as a pioneer in its industry. The main lifecycle benefits of balcony glazing, however, stem from energy savings achieved through reductions in heating and cooling energy consumption, as well as the enhanced protection these systems offer to building structures.
Recycling and social responsibility were also major topics of discussion. The Chilean delegation was keen to learn about Lumon’s use of recycled glass in its manufacturing processes, which aligns with their interest in sustainable development.
Lumon’s close relationship with its authorized partner, Panorama, based in Santiago, Chile, was also highlighted during the visit. In addition to balcony glazing, Panorama is also the largest distributor of Visor Blinds in Chile. They sell, manufacture, and install Lumon’s products across the country of Chile, with the capital, Santiago, serving as the primary sales location.
The visit re-enforced the growing demand for sustainable and innovative building solutions in Chile and reinforced Lumon’s role as a leader in the global market for balcony glazing and sustainable construction.

Lumon customers are using their glazed spaces more than expected for dining and entertaining
Lumon’s recent customer study reveals a notable trend: nearly 25-29% of respondents are using their outdoor spaces more than expected with the addition of glazing. While the concept of balcony glazing has become familiar in especially Nordic countries, the survey shows that the benefit of balcony glazing is often not fully realized until it becomes a natural part of everyday life. The survey, conducted across five countries -Finland, Sweden, Norway, Spain, and Canada- highlights dining and entertaining as one of the top ways of using the outdoor space. However, the possible uses of the space extend far beyond.
