Media release: Lumon to incorporate glazing at Solhouse

A 50-storey high-rise in Canada – the tallest building for Lumon yet

Lumon, the world’s leading manufacturer of frameless balcony glazing solutions, has partnered with Vancouver-based real estate company, Bosa Properties, to deliver balcony facades to a 50-storey residential tower – Solhouse 6035 – in the Greater Vancouver Area, Canada. With Lumon’s glazing and glass railing technology to be implemented on over 400 balconies, the project will be the tallest building globally to include Lumon’s retractable glass-panel technology. Construction is set to begin in 2024 and complete in 2028.

Most of the balconies at Solhouse extend the entire width of each home and are 2,5 metres deep, and retractable high-strength glass panels that slide in and out and expand apartments’ usable space by as much as 35 percent. At the same time Lumon glazing provides energy savings and reduces heard noise levels by up to 50 percent, offering a reprieve from urban city life and further dampening the noise into the unit itself.

“Choosing to partner with Lumon at Solhouse was a strategic decision driven by our insights on how our customers want to live,” said Jen Riley, Vice President, Brand at Bosa Properties. “The need for year-round connection to nature and flexible, functional spaces are emerging as high priorities.”

“This project strengthens Lumon’s growth strategy, which focuses on Europe as well as North America. High-rise buildings equipped with balcony glazing solutions give residents more room for life in urban environments while also providing energy savings and noise reduction. All our glazing solutions are planned and manufactured in our own factories in Kouvola, Finland, in Malaga, Spain or in Ontario, Canada,” says Jussi Kinnunen, CEO of the Lumon Group.

“With the project being implemented, Lumon is entering a new building segment – 50-storey high-rises,” says Mr. Kinnunen. “We thank Bosa Properties for their trust in us.”

“Solhouse embodies outside-in living through the integration of Lumon’s innovative balcony glazing solutions,” says Ben Togeretz, Regional Manager at Lumon Canada. “We have been pleased to work with Bosa Properties, with whom we share a long-standing family legacies of customer trust, quality and craftsmanship, and we are looking forward to starting the implementation.”

As urbanization continues and more people embrace high-rise living, Lumon’s pioneering innovative solutions, designed in Finland, provide residents with private, year-round outdoor spaces – driving the evolution of urban residential design. Lumon’s high-quality tempered glass protects balconies and extends the lifespan of buildings, which is an important factor amid increasing extreme weather events.

Lumon has installed its systems in over a million homes worldwide – with projects including Germany’s tallest mass timber project, ‘Roots,’ located in Hamburg’s HafenCity quarter.
