EPD

Europe’s leading terrace and balcony supplier Lumon has published an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for its balcony, façade and terrace products, becoming the first in the industry to do so. Based on an extensive life cycle analysis of the products, the EPD verifies the low carbon footprint of Lumon glazing products.

“Lumon’s modular EPD for balcony, façade and terrace products is based on a comprehensive life cycle assessment and has been verified by an independent third party. This is a milestone for our technical development team as it is now possible to calculate our products’ accurate project-specific CO2 emission figures for our corporate customers,” says Juhani Hovi, Solutions Manager at Lumon.

Lumon’s products are always made-to-measure and tailored to the customer’s specific needs. As a result, the new modular environmental statement has also been designed in such a way that it makes it possible for planners and designers to calculate the life cycle environmental impact of Lumon balcony, façade and terrace products of different sizes.

“The Environmental Product Declaration shows the low carbon footprint of Lumon glazing products. For example, a medium size (1700mmx3500mm x 1760mm) retractable Lumon glazing has a carbon footprint of 460 kgCO2, which is at the same level as a one-person one way flight from Helsinki, Finland to Barcelona, Spain*. Our balcony glazing saves energy by forming a buffer area between the exterior and interior and the product’s carbon footprint is offset in three years and four months, on average,” continues Jari Miettinen, Sustainability Program Director at Lumon.

Lumon aims to become the leading provider of sustainable living solutions in the balcony and terrace glazing industry. Lumon’s sustainability is guided by a sustainability horizon consisting of three pillars: Environment, Social and Governance (ESG).
